Photos from Art in the Park

Our event "neighbors drawing neighbors" was a huge success. Many people came out and had fun taking photos and drawing each other.

This week we have been busy organizing all the wonderful portraits.
They are now hanging at the Media Room at the Wellesley Free Library. The exhibit is up for a
limited time only so make sure to go and  take a look. It's inspiring to see so many of them!

Last but not least, we have also created a flickr account where you can see your portrait created by someone else  and the work you created.

Art in the Park

Do you know what your neighbors look like? Do they know what you look like? Could you get to know your neighbors better if you drew their picture?

On Saturday, May 16, from 1-4pm at Simons Park (corner of Washington and Brook Streets) the Wellesley Women Artisans invite you to come and draw your neighbors. We’ll take your Polaroid picture, have you share three easy facts about yourself, and put them in an envelope. You’ll then receive a random envelope from someone you’ve never met and have the chance to sit down and draw the person’s picture. All ages and levels of art experience welcome. All materials will be provided. We’ll have a temporary gallery on site to share our pictures of each other.

“Even in a small town like Wellesley, so few of us really get to know or even meet one another,” says event co-chair Laura Fragasso. “By drawing each other we see each other in a new light, perhaps for the first time, and experience art making together in a way that few people other than young children get a chance to do.”

The idea for Neighbors Drawing Neighbors originated with artist Ivan Cash’s event at the Sundance Film Festival this year, Strangers Drawing Strangers. Learn more about Ivan’s event here: http://www.cashstudios.co/strangers-drawing-strangers/

Neighbors Drawing Neighbors is part of Wellesley’s Wonderful Weekend and is the third public participatory art experience hosted by the Wellesley Women Artisans. The mission of the Wellesley Women Artisans is to establish and promote an arts community within the Town of Wellesley by creating a strong alliance among women artists residing within the town, facilitating community-wide art experiences for town residents, and building connections among artists, town government, businesses, and other organizations in Wellesley.

Behind the scenes we have been buys preparing and having loads of fun. Stay tuned for more information!
